Art Department Contract
WELCOME TO THE ART DEPARTMENT HERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND BUSINESS!
Our Arts programs are geared to provide unique experience and skills that students can utilize for employment opportunities. We offer a sequence of courses for Art that includes courses in both fine and commercial arts. These courses all meet the New York City Blueprint Learning Standards. Career Development (Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities to future career decisions.), Integrated Learning (Students will demonstrate how academic knowledge and skills are applied in the workplace and other settings), Universal Foundation Skills (Students will demonstrate mastery of the foundation skills and competencies essential for success in the workplace.), Career Majors (Students who choose a career major will acquire the career-specific technical knowledge/skills necessary to progress toward gainful employment, career advancement, and success in post-secondary programs.

Business Department Contract

English Department Contract
Welcome to the English Department at Arts and Business High School.
In your English classes you will gain an understanding of and an appreciation for literature. Students will study works from various genres of literature. Students will critically think about drama, fiction, non-fiction and poetry—through readings, class discussions, special projects and writing. Students will explore themes that are universal to all cultures. Students will acquire and improve skills in all areas of communication which forms an essential part of education.

WELCOME TO MATHEMATICS HERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND BUSINESS!
It is the goal of the Mathematics Department to equip each student with the skills, knowledge, and understanding of mathematics to succeed in all fields of study at the college level and beyond. Music Department Contract
WELCOME TO THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT HERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND BUSINESS!
Our Arts programs are geared to provide unique experience and skills that students can utilize for lifelong learning through Music Literacy. We offer a sequence of courses for Music that includes several diverse courses for Theory, Instrumental or Choral Music. These courses all meet the Blueprint Learning Standards for New York State: (Music making) Students synthesize elements of music, notation, and performance practice. Students emerge as artists through performance, improvisation, and composition. Students integrate vocal and instrumental technique, artistry, historical context, and performance practice. Students assume leadership roles specific to performance, ensemble, and classroom. Students create and critique ensemble music-making procedures and behaviors. (Music Literacy) Students develop expertise in music. (Making Connections) Students demonstrate an understanding of correlations to music’s role in society in a variety of contexts. ALL students are required to take and pass 8 semesters of Physical Education in order to graduate. The Department of Physical Education will be adhering to the following guidelines for the purpose of grading students. We ask that all students and parents assist us in upholding these standards.

WELCOME TO THE SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND BUSINESS.
This is a very important contract between you and your teacher. Please be sure to review this document with your parent and have it signed and return it to your teacher. As this will be your first homework assignment. III. GRADING- Your report card grades will ultimately end up on your transcript. Colleges will be looking at your transcript. Protect your grade- Know where you are and why you are getting the grade you are getting. Use Pupil Path with your parents to see how you are doing in the class. If your grade is not to your expectations find out why it is that grade and ask how it can improve. Most four year colleges are looking for high 80’s and 90’s in course grades and that should be your expectation as well. The grades of 65-75 are not good enough! Colleges look at your grades the same way and it is up to you to make that difference and succeed in getting higher grades. Work with your teacher and plan to get the highest grade possible. IV. MIDTERMS FINALS AND REGENTS EXAMINATIONS
Each course will have a mid-term and final examination or exit project. Mid- Terms should count for a double test grade, along with finals. If your course ends in a Regents Examination it will be counted in as a separate marking period into your grade.
If your grade was below a 65 and you passed the Regents you will have to work with your teacher to do an exit project assignment that meets the criteria of the NYC Academic Policy for you to achieve credit in the course.

V. Advanced Placement:
In this Advanced Placement class you will have more reading, assessments and much richer and deep analysis of artifacts. The homework will be more engaging and will be followed up with homework quizzes to assess the reading. The materials in Advanced Placement are far more in depth and cover a larger range of years. It will be extremely important for you to keep up with the readings and the handouts and power points used to further enrich your writing skills. There is an expectation that you will be held accountable to attend at least two practice Advanced Placement Examinations on Saturdays - One in Late March and One in April. These Practice Examinations are mandatory. It will count as part of your class participation grade for the 3rd, 4th and 5th marking period grades for this class. Also there will be at least 10 mandatory tutoring sessions prior to the Advanced Placement examination at the end of April and the Beginning of May. These sessions tie to together the knowledge you have learned throughout the school year and will best prepare you for the Advanced Placement Examination in May. This is a college level course with the challenging materials that will prepare you for the Advanced Placement Examination, the Regents and the SAT II. The more you put into the course the more you will get out of it, please be prepared for a rigorous workload and challenge that lies ahead. Good luck!
World Language Department Contract
Welcome to the World Languages Department at Arts and Business High School.
Students in this World Languages Class will be introduced to the Spanish Language and to the cultures of the Spanish speaking countries. Students will gain an understanding of and appreciate the Spanish Language. Students will learn how to communicate effectively in Spanish with activities designed to develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

II.- REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:
- You must have a notebook to maintain all your homework and notes together. The section of your notebook dedicated to English should be divided into three parts: Classwork, Homework and Vocabulary.
- Bring all needed materials to class: pens, pencils, notebooks and technology.
- You are required to actively participate in each session. (remote students AND in person students)
- When you are absent, YOU MUST be responsible for class work missed.
- Attendance is requires in both remote and live sessions. If you are going to be absent, you must notify the teacher.
- If you are absent the day of the exam, a SIGNED NOTE will be required to take the exam the first day you come back.
- Participation in class activities is required.
