Final semester grades are cumulative. The Report Card for each semester lists separate grades for Marking Period 1 and Marking Period 2. The Marking Period 3 grade is calculated by the teacher and averaged with the grades from the first two marking periods (Marking Period 1 and Marking Period 2) to calculate the Final Grade, which is recorded on the Report Card and Transcript.

2. Course Grades Used
    1. Grades are given in increments of five, with the exception of 88 and grades over 90, which may be given in increments of one.
    2. Passing grades are: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 88, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100
    3. Failing grades are: 45, 50, 55, 60*
*60 is only given in the first and second marking periods
    4. Science labs are assigned grades of P or F.
    5. College Now courses receive letter grades: A, B, C, D, and F

3. Special Marks

In certain circumstances, students may be given special marks
    1. NL: New Admission, no credit granted*
      *
Student has until the end of the following term (not including summer) to complete the course.
      1. Student admitted to the school within 10 school days of the end of the marking period OR
      2. Student admitted to a new course within 10 school days of the end of the marking period and who previously did not take the course that semester with another teacher
    2. ND: Interdisciplinary Course, no credit granted
Interdisciplinary courses have two codes assigned in the third marking period. ‘ND’ is awarded for the code that reflects a distribution requirement and does not receive credit. The credit-bearing code receives a regular grade. At the High School for Arts and Business, interdisciplinary courses are offered in Dance/Dance as Physical Education and Career and Financial Management/Economics.
    3. NX: Course in Progress (Incomplete)
A student may receive a mark of NX in the case of documented, extreme extenuating circumstance that prevents them from completing the course in its established timeframe (for example, surgery or a death in the family). 'NX' does not have a pass/fail or a numeric equivalent. A student who receives a Course in Progress must successfully complete remaining course requirements by the end of the term following the termination of the course in order to receive a final grade and credit, as applicable.
